We know it can be somewhat unnerving to enter into a new environment, especially when there are a lot of unknowns. To give you an idea of what to expect at The Well, we put together answers to some frequently asked questions that will hopefully help you understand what The Well is like week to week.
What kind of church is The Well?
The Well is a growing community that explores together what it means to love and follow Jesus in the context of Austin and the world. We are a church that seeks to know God and live out the good news of Jesus.
What kind of people come to The Well?
The Well is a community of people from different backgrounds who are all in different places in their spiritual journey. Some are exploring the Christian faith for the first time, others are new believers in Christ, and some have spent most of their lives in church. We are comprised of mostly college students, young professionals, and young families.
What if I don’t normally go to church?
Perfect! We desire to create a welcoming environment for those who are curious about God, but have never felt comfortable in church. We try to explain the different elements of the worship gathering so that people don’t get lost along the way. We want The Well to be a place where you can learn, apply, and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t have it all figured out yet; we don’t either.
What are the worship gatherings like?
The worship gatherings at The Well are casual and relaxed, but focused. We pattern our church after the early Church in teaching, prayer, and fellowship. We teach from the Bible. We pray, meditate on God, sing, and reflect. We respond by taking communion together. We seek to make our worship gatherings accessible to those who are new to church and the Christian faith, and at the same time, fresh for those who have been in the church for a long time.
What does the pastor usually talk about?
We believe that God is a personal God and that the teachings of the Bible are still as true and relevant today as they were when it was written. We present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that’s easy to understand, even if you’ve never been to church. At the core of the message each week is the Gospel – the good news that through Jesus we can have an intimate and personal relationship with God. We believe this message has amazing implications for our lives and can transform and redeem every part of it (relationships, sex, money, purpose, etc.).
What about my children?
When you come to The Well, you can check your child(ren) into the children’s ministry at a table near the main entrance. Our children’s ministry volunteers will take care of your children and teach them about God in a fun and interactive way while you attend the worship service.
What should I wear?
It doesn’t matter; wear what is comfortable for you. There’s no set dress code at The Well, but we tend to dress on the casual side.
How do I find The Well & where do I park?
We meet in Campbell Elementary. Our entrance is located at 2001 Cedar Ave between Manor Rd and MLK. You should see signs on Cedar Ave for our main parking lot and entrance. If that parking lot is full, there are other locations you can park as well. Here’s a nifty map to give you a visual of the parking options.
Can I invite my friends?
We would love for you to invite your friends. We do our best to be a warm and welcoming environment for people who are curious about Jesus or who are looking to belong to a community of Christ-followers.
